This easy recipe calls for layering dinner roll pieces with butter, seasonings, & cheese! The baked result is yummy garlic bread bites, which when pulled create irresistible cheese strings. The fluffy soft buttery dinner rolls melt in the mouth deliciously along with salty garlic & Italian herb flavors.
Equipment
- Dutch Oven
Ingredients
- 24-25 dinner rolls
- ½ cup butter cubed pieces
- 3 tsp garlic salt
- 3 tsp Italian seasoning blend
- 1 cup shredded parmesan cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1-2 tbsp olive oil or any cooking oil to grease the Dutch oven
Instructions
- Prepare the fire pit by heating 25 charcoal briquettes. Meanwhile, thaw the rolls so that they are soft enough to cut into pieces. Also, grease a 12-inches campfire Dutch oven on the base and sides with olive oil.
- Now, using scissors cut 10 thawed rolls into 3-4 pieces using scissors and lay them on the oil-greased cold Dutch oven. Then, place 1/3 butter cubes and ¼ cup each of Parmesan & mozzarella cheese in between the roll pieces. Sprinkle 1 tsp garlic salt, & 1 tsp Italian seasoning blend on top.
- Next, cut 7-8 thawed rolls into pieces and prepare the second layer. Repeat putting 1/3 butter cubes & ¼ cup each of Parmesan & mozzarella cheese, and sprinkle a teaspoon each of garlic salt & Italian seasoning blend on top.
- Arrange the 3rd layer similarly with the remaining roll pieces, butter, ¼ cup of both cheeses, and seasonings. Save the leftover cheese for later.
- After that cover the Dutch oven with the lid and keep aside for about half an hour till they double in size.
- Make a bed of 8 hot charcoal briquettes and place the campfire Dutch oven on it. Put the remaining 17 hot charcoal briquettes on the lid. Bake for 25 minutes.
- Carefully remove the lid and sprinkle the leftover shredded Parmesan & Mozzarella cheese. Cover with the lid and continue to bake for 5 more minutes till the cheese melts and the top looks golden brownish.
- Finally, remove the lid and take off the Dutch oven from the heat.
- Relish the “Pull Apart Garlic Bread” after a few minutes when warm enough to touch.
Notes
Tips
• While thawing the dinner rolls ensure not to leave them out for too long.
• After layering, ensure there is enough room for the bread to fluff up and bake without touching the lid. Otherwise, all the cheese will stick to the lid making a mess.
• You may check the rolls after 15-20 minutes of baking time as depending on the coal’s temperature the Pull Apart Garlic Bread may cook sooner or slower. So, you may need a few minutes less/more than the 25-30 minutes cook time. Always, check the center, as the edges crisp up but often the center remains under-done.
• When cooking in an electric oven, preheat the oven at 350° F. Then, prepare the layers similarly and bake for 20-25 minutes at 350° F.
